#334 Dead Aim

A young boy of a family of eight children sure didn't see many store bought toys. So, a farm boy like me learned how to make his own toys. One of my favorite hand made toys was a bow and arrow. I made the bow from a willow limb and a piece of clothesline wire. I made the arrows from small cane poles and chicken feathers. The funniest thing happen one day when I was using my bow and arrows. A few buddies (Donnie, Cornell, Johnny, and Earnie) and I was walking down by the Ponchatoula Creek. I brought them along to show them how good I could shoot my bow. We were walking on a patch about sixteen feet high above the canal when I saw an old water moccasin swimming below. Just for a joke I said, "Boys, If you don't think I'm an Indian, Just watch this." I put an arrow in my bow and pulled back the old wire and let it go. To their great surprise, that arrow stuck right into the back of that snake. I couldn't have done that again in a hundred years if I tried everyday but, To those boys I acted as if it was an everyday thing I did.
