#345 Breaking Ground

After the Strawberry season is over and all the straw has been burnt it's time to hook old Pete up to the plow and break the ground so it can be rowed-up for a new crop. To handle a plow takes a work of art. I never could communicate with old "Pete" the mule, because I always got my "Gees" and "Haws" mixed up. My rows always turned out to look like a crooked vine. A fellow would get dizzy picking berries off a row I formed up. But, Dad always had enough chores to make up the work difference. And, Pete didn't mind it at all either.
