When a boy is young and has a new
fresh-made sling shot, everything is fair game. Oh - Almost! That old red hen
sure is Not fair game. I learned that the hard way! The day I learned
that was when I took my new sling shot and slipped into the chicken yard where
that old red hen was bent-over eating. My first (and last) shot justed skimmed
her feathers. Before I knew what was happening a giant rooster (Roho) was on my
heels, spurs, and claws a-flying. I never was so glad in my life as I was when I
topped that fence, (with room to spare). It seems like at that age there is
always someone or something there to spoil the fun of life.
